Reaching for the stage lights They sit waiting in the earth Resting Poking out of the earth slightly Some of them have been Crushed Too long in the dark Perhaps Too harshly handled Perhaps The one nearest me Wasn’t buried correctly And it tilts down Towards the ground Not the earth Everything about them tilts Actually Every one of them They should hold on tighter Or they’ll tip right over The brick border I’m not sure which ones are real And which ones are fake How much is a cultivated illusion?
