Narrow Portrait The painting of the boy Sits just outside our door Just outside our view He never stares at you He stares around you He holds a jug and a dog And stands amidst the dirt and trees The boy wears no Shoes Aren’t his soles hurting? I wonder what he’s searching for The sky over his head is gray But a storm isn’t brewing It’s only waiting His clothes are tattered His soul seems tattered too Or weathered Where is he planning on going?
