100 Word Post One - Mika2/10/2020 Through presentations by Mr. Mathis, Mr. Sawyer, and Dr. Chase, I learned much about the relationship between England and Ireland. Starting in 1172, when England claimed lordship over Ireland, a clear self-segregation can be seen. The British only lived in an area called “The Pale.” I found this elitism/racism interesting - the construct of race had not been created. This British view of Irish people is also in drawings comparing the Irish to Africans, which likely fueled the ideology of race. I’m unsure of when and how - or if - these views stopped, which is something I want to research further.
