As a final step in formal self-reflection, students completed self- and team-assessments. Below is a collection of student reflections on the processes and products that came out of Adapting Hamlet.

"I learned a lot about navigating through challenges, like improvising when our venue is unavailable (not only once but twice). Thinking on my feet is a critical skill that I acquired during this process."
"I learned a lot more about how perspective influences Hamlet and how different events can be seen from many perspectives. I also learned that working with motivated and excited people makes getting work done more easily and more enjoyably. Finally, I feel that I was able to hone my leadership skills as to when to lead and when to follow."
"I learned about the multifaceted importance of various characters in Hamlet, the significance of setting and tone in a Shakespearean play, and the distinction between adaptations and appropriations in films."
"For future projects, I will look to approach them with an open mind and maybe explore possibilities from different approaches and consider a variety of methods for creating and presenting artifacts. I really like the video project approach. Creating a video really requires a deeper understanding of the source material. We also had to be very aware of our audience while we were creating our video."
"I am proud of the fact that me and the other editors were able to decipher Hamlet and translate it into an understandable and functional modern setting."
"I learned how to better work in a team. Though Galloway has given me many opportunities to work in groups, dividing up into multiple groups that then work as a team provided a different work environment because we were all primarily working from our strengths. The secondary responsibility teams also gave us the chance to challenge ourselves to step outside of our comfort zones. Also, I became more confident in my Weebly skills. Though I took internship and made a website there too, I was happy to see how much I learned and that I was able to put that into practice. Lastly, I liked how I could be independent in this project. Though I had a team with me, I was able to add the the website on my own."
"One of the first objectives I met which I am very proud of is understanding the act in a different perspective. The act was a bit confusing at first to be honest, but after making this modern adaptation and actually acting it out on a professional level, it really helps for me to learn what is going on in the scene."
"I am proudest of writing the part of the script from Hamlet's point of view, where Hamlet accuses Polonius of being a fishmonger because of the complexity of Hamlet that is shown. This scene does a magnificent job of showing how Hamlet sees himself as sane but comes off as mad. I am also proud that our class was able to work together so well."
"Because I was on both the screenwriter and director teams, I was able to deeply delve into Hamlet more than other groups might have been able to. The directing and screenwriting teams really deeply analyzed the text and had to look at every character's actions from multiple perspectives for the purpose of our video. As an actor, I was able to make the things we envisioned while writing and analyzing the script come to life."
"For the project as a whole I am proud of how our argument came across and all of the symbolism we incorporated."
"I think I developed a greater understanding of Hamlet through studying Rosencrantz and Guildenstern's significance in the play; as a class we definitely practiced logistical planning and problem solving skills when we had to move a lot of things around to film; and I navigated collaborative challenges when we were writing the script and everyone had a lot of different ideas about what the play's characters' would say in different situations and how they felt during the play, but in the end I think it turned out to be a success because we all explained our opinions to each other and compromised when making the final product."
"Some of the best lessons I learned from this project were the importance of delegating tasks across the group in advance so that one person doesn't get bogged down with doing all of the work since we managed to spread out the tasks very well for this project with the contracts and variety of groups and tasks. I also was able to practice communicating my ideas to other people who might disagree with me and trying to reach an acceptable compromise that would work towards the directors' idea for the video."
"I'm proudest of accomplishing what the directors set out to accomplish since we were really excited about our idea from the beginning and I think the final product reflects our initial idea; I'm also very proud of the script we wrote since I think it accurately portrays our claims about each character and managed to be funny while also getting our argument across."
"I learned how to be resilient and flexible when factors outside our control hamper our project. I also learned how to say the same words in many different ways and truly act instead of just speaking text; my character Polonius is perceived by others very differently than he perceives himself, so it was interesting and challenging to portray this with my acting. I finally understood how many small decisions go into making a work with a complex and successful argument: Should Hamlet's shirt be light or dark grey in this scene? Should Reynaldo be standing up or sitting down?"
"I absolutely love this class and how creative it is. It taught me to have fun and learn at the same time."
"Another challenge arose when the writers fell behind schedule. I worked through this by getting the filming done and editing started before the script was finished, so everyone was simultaneously working on different stages of the process."
"I am honestly proudest of my role as Ophelia. I love the character, and I feel I did a good job portraying her differently in the different perceptions (Polonius's and Ophelia's). I worked hard to develop her mindset and use the costume symbolism to enhance our argument."
"I am super proud of this project! It is really good! I am excited by the material! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"I learned to take a step back and not over-worry myself on my project. I learned to live up to the standards and objectives that I set up for myself as well as the objectives that others set up for me. I learned that the planning you do before starting a project becomes really helpful near the end of production."
"The lesson I have learned from this project is one is much more inspired to work hard at something if they are passionate about it. For Instance, because I was already passionate about HTML and CSS, I incorporated this into this project by tweaking little things on our weebly theme in order to make it unique. However, I saw other people struggle to find this passion in this project. I am proudest of the website because I got the chance to tweak the code ever so slightly to make it one of a kind, which I did not know I was capable of doing."
"I also gained more an appreciation for the play while I was helping on the script. Having to adapt a text to another scenario teaches you a lot about the fundamental messages the author is trying to get across and also gives you a better understanding of how much work it must have been to write the play in the first place."
