If Marie Kondo were to come to the British Museum, how would she “tidy up”? What would “spark joy” for the nation and what is “just stuff”? What would be tossed in the trash as unnecessary rubbish and what would be given back to its original owner? How would she gently but firmly coach the nation through the tidying process, guiding them to a less cluttered and more intentional life: less about acquiring and appropriating, and more about acknowledging past hoarding habits and cultivating new patterns of healthy minimalism. Poor Marie. I anticipate this will not be an easy transition.
